Pirates of the Indian Ocean (a tour for kids)
Tour details
Ahoy me hearties! Come and join our special kids tour about The East India Company’s history.
The East India Company changed what the world ate, drank, and wore. Hundreds of years ago merchant adventurers set out from London. Nowadays we might think of these people as pirates. But their adventures led them to the ends of the earth. They traded with pieces-of-eight so they must be pirates. And they took no prisoners. You’ll hear about their story under an ambitious queen - Elizabeth 1 - and what led them to become the most powerful company in the world.
From these buccaneering beginnings, they made themselves rich through greed, corruption, smuggling and drug running.
Follow in the footsteps of dastardly Directors, where they lived, worked, and worshipped. And hear the story of the Company as we go along. We’ll dig into the musty corners and alley-ways to find them. There’s nowhere for the Company to hide in this tour.
The tour is suitable for school children (ages 8+) and can be offered as an addition to the curriculum or a half-term fun activity. It’s one-and-a-half hours long. Costs are £20 child and £15 adult. Payable on the day. You can also book a private tour at a cost of £250 by emailing us on lisa@walkinglondontours.co.uk or completing the booking form.
