The East India Company in the City

Tour details

Let the former Governor of St Helena take you on a tour of the City of London in search of the East India Company. She can tell you about the Company’s history, how it governed St Helena, and much more besides.

The East India Company changed what the world ate, drank, and wore. In its time it was the largest multinational corporation in the world. Its role ranged from trading in…well almost everything….to training its own private army. From ruling India to minting its own coins, and plenty in between.

The East India Company started in trade and ended in Empire. This is a no-holds barred walk which recounts the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. See where it all started, where Directors lived, worked and worshipped. And hear the story of the Company as we go along. Eerily, the City has few remnants of the Company but we’ve dug into the musty corners , archives, and alley-ways. There’s nowhere for the Company to hide in this tour.

This tour is offered through London Walks (walks.com) at £20pp. There is a selection of dates. Alternatively you can book a private tour by emailing us on lisa@walkinglondontours.co.uk
