The Toddy Tour with the East India Company

Tour Details

Take a tour with Sarah, a micro-brewer and drinks enthusiast, for a 3 hour guided walk to some of the City of London’s taverns and gin palaces, sampling your way through the alcoholic drinks for which the East India Company were directly responsible.

If you’ve been on Lisa Honan’s tour about the history of the Company (or even if you haven’t), this tour provides a perfect mixer. The East India Company’s thirst for profits only slightly outweighed their insatiable thirst for booze. The Company’s history was drenched in the stuff.

You will visit a gin palace with a dark and haunted past, wine vaults home to some liquids as old as the East India Company itself, and one of the City’s oldest pubs where Company Directors used to drink. You will hear the stories behind how the Company created the drinks that we now know and love.

Meet at Bank Underground station, Royal Exchange exit. Finish close to City Thameslink and Blackfriars station.

Included : expert guide and a sample of Madeira wine. Not included : any other drinks at own expense.

This tour can be booked as a private tour of up to 12 people through the London Untapped website - click below. £250 total.
